GOOD REFERENCES, CLEARER CHARACTERS
Choose photos for your personalized storybook characters
Clear reference photos help communicate the people and pets you want in your story. You will still review and approve the illustrated characters before using them in your book.
A quick photo checklist
- Use a sharp photo with the face clearly visible and large enough to see the details.
- Choose even lighting. Avoid heavy shadows, glare and very dark rooms.
- Prefer natural images without beauty filters, face effects or stickers.
- Keep hair, eyes and other important features visible. Avoid sunglasses and objects covering the face when possible.
- If adding several references, use photos of the same person at a similar age and appearance.
- Choose references you have permission to upload.
Children, adults and pets
For people, a clear front-facing photo is a useful starting point; another angle can help show features. For pets, choose an image showing the face, coat color and distinctive markings. Describe details that matter to you in the character information.
For children’s photos, use only images you are authorized to provide as a parent, guardian or otherwise authorized adult. Review photo and content consent.
Using photos from an iPhone
Choose the original clear photo where possible instead of a screenshot or a copy forwarded through several messaging apps. Wait until the upload finishes and the thumbnail appears before moving on. If a photo does not appear, retry that image and check your connection.
Use the uploaded-photo list to check references and remove an accidental or unsuitable upload. If a problem continues, email support@lookayou.com with your device, browser and the error message. Do not email additional family photos unless support specifically needs them.
What if an illustrated character looks different?
Generated characters are artistic interpretations, not exact photographic reproductions. Review the character before approving it. Check the reference photos and description, then use the available editing or regeneration options where needed. Review any displayed charge before requesting a paid change.
Privacy and deletion
Photo references and book projects are account content, not public examples. Read our Privacy Policy for how content is handled. For account or data deletion, follow the public deletion instructions.
